Our Methodology

How we collect and verify pro golf yardage data

Where Our Data Comes From

Every yardage on ProYardages.com is sourced from publicly available, published information. We do not fabricate or guess numbers. Our primary sources include:

  • Published interviews — Players and caddies frequently share stock yardages in media interviews, press conferences, and podcast appearances.
  • Trackman and launch monitor data — When Trackman or other launch monitor data is published by tours or media outlets, we use those verified measurements.
  • PGA Tour and LPGA Tour statistics — Official tour stats provide swing speed, driving distance, and other measurable data points.
  • Golf media outlets — Trusted publications like Golf Monthly, Golfweek, Golf Digest, Bunkered, and Golf365 regularly compile player yardage profiles from verified sources.

Each data point on our site includes a source attribution so you can verify the information yourself.

Confidence Labels

Every yardage on ProYardages.com carries a confidence label. This transparency helps you understand how reliable each number is.

Reported

The yardage comes directly from a published source — a player interview, caddie quote, published Trackman session, or official tour data. These are our highest-confidence numbers.

Estimated

The yardage is calculated or extrapolated from related data. For example, if a player's driver carry and iron distances are known, we can reasonably estimate wedge distances based on typical gapping patterns and swing speed. Estimated values are clearly marked so you know the difference.

Carry vs. Total Distance

We display two distance figures for each club:

  • Carry distance — How far the ball travels through the air before landing. This is the most important number for club selection, as it determines whether your ball clears hazards and reaches the target.
  • Total distance — The carry distance plus roll after landing. Total distance depends heavily on course conditions, landing angle, and spin rate. The total figures we show represent typical conditions.

On our site, carry distance is always the primary (highlighted) figure because it is more consistent and more useful for comparing players.

Why Numbers Change

Professional golfer yardages are not fixed. They vary based on several factors:

  • Equipment changes — New club models, shaft swaps, and ball changes can shift distances by 5-15 yards.
  • Course conditions — Altitude, temperature, humidity, wind, and firmness all affect how far the ball travels.
  • Aging and fitness — Swing speed naturally changes over a player's career. A player's current distances may differ from numbers published years ago.
  • Intentional adjustments — Many pros carry clubs at different distances than their max. Stock yardages represent controlled, repeatable numbers — not maximum effort.

We aim to present the most current, commonly referenced stock yardages for each player. When sources conflict, we note the discrepancy or use the most recent published figure.

Tour Averages

Our Tour Averages are compiled from Trackman data and published tour statistics for the 2024 season. These represent the median professional golfer on each tour — not the longest hitters, but the typical player.
